Computers and software

Computers with Internet access, online databases and a range of software packages are available.

Teachers who wish to add software to the library's public access computers should see the page: Adding software to library computers.

The Online Communication Services – TAFE NSW Code of Expected User Behaviour (formerly the Computer Users Code of Conduct) applies to all users of TAFE NSW computer networks including staff, students and other authorised users.

Accessing the Internet on TAFE NSW computers

To access the Internet on TAFE NSW computers, you will need a DET portal user name and password. This is called AIBE-Authenticated Internet Browsing and Email. After enrolment, if you don’t receive a letter containing your DET portal user name and password, please contact the Customer Service sections.

LearnSpace

The LearnSpace is located on the ground floor of Ultimo College Library, Building D. It offers TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute students and staff access to electronic sources of information and educational technology.

The LearnSpace also houses the Adaptive Technology Access Centre (ATAC), a 'connected classroom' and the Learner Support – Flexible Learning Centre (FLC).

Adaptive Technology Access Centre (ATAC)

The Adaptive Technology Access Centre (ATAC) is located in the LearnSpace. The Adaptive Technology Access Centre (ATAC) provides specialist equipment and software for people with disabilities. To access the ATAC, students need to be introduced by the Disabilities Coordinator. Bookings can be made by phone on 9217 3356.

Connected Classrooms

Room DG.40 in the LearnSpace is a connected classroom. Connected classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboard and video conferencing facilities.

Learner Support – Flexible Learning Centre (FLC)

The Flexible Learning Centre is located on the Ground level (LearnSpace).This centre is operated by the General Education Teaching Section to provide assistance in these areas:

• Adult basic education
• English communication
• English for speakers of other languages
  
• Humanities
• Mathematics
• Science

Student Association Membership is available to all students, and is required to use the computers located near the Learner Support area. For hours of opening and further information telephone the centre on 9217 3868.

Group study rooms

Students may use group study rooms for group work. Telephone 9217 3317 or go to the Information Desk on level 1 to make a booking.

Seminar rooms (Staff bookings only)

Telephone 9217 3317 or go to any Information Desk in the Library to make a booking. All the rooms have a computer which is connected to the Internet, with a data projector for displaying so that the class can see the screen. You can use the DVD player on the computer, for the rooms without a separate DVD player.

**DG.52 – Ultimo College Library has a room with 16 computers connected to the Internet, which is available for teaching and learning support. Teachers may make bookings for the current week (only short notice bookings) by contacting the library.

Equipment

Video/DVD players, cassette/CD players and scanners are available for use in the library.
